The Gorilla Gets a Bad Rep
After the movie, Delaware Museum of Natural History director Halsey Spruance took us to the third floor, where the curatorial archives are (the fifth largest shell collection in the world!), and where the science gets done. It's also where the taxidermy is kept from the Bad Old Days of natural history, when museum collectors would shoot peaceful vegetarian gorillas and mount them in snarling poses, stamping on a tribal shield and smashing an assegai. Apparently, they were also dusted with arsenic(!!) to keep the bugs off.
